Reverend Ethan Acres
I am more of a visual man so I could not just sit here and read nine pages about Reverend Ethan Acres. I had to actually see him in action. So I pulled up some YouTube videos of Reverend Acres to get a better understanding of him and his work. Now in the book, well at least the part I read, they describe him as an, “ evangelical preacher in a Christian church.” A man that, “ abounds with love for imperfect people and for a perfect God.” That part grabbed my attention and kept me interested. Also the fact that he is a preacher that lives in Las Vegas, the capital of sex and flesh and gluttony and sin, as the book states, forced me to keep going.
I love the face that he is a man of God and is an artist both at the same time. That is the best way to show God that you are thankful for the talent that he has blessed you with, by using it and giving him all of the glory at the same time. But once I looked at the YouTube videos I realized someting, I do not take him serious! He looks like a comedian that does not get any laughs. The video I saw was, “Church of The Holy Fool: Victoria Reynolds”. The name goes perfect with the performance because it looks like a Fool is bouncing around in a Church. The only part I enjoyed was when he was quoting Holy Bible verses.
I think that his outfit and voice is what disappointed me the most about Reverend Ethan Acres. I tried to find more videos of him but there was a sound problem with them so that did not work. I like the idea of him trying to mix preaching and art together at the same time, but I do not like the way that he pulled it off. Honestly, I feel a little insulted and offended. If you look and listen closely at what is happening in the video, it seem like he is making this wonderful idea one big joke. That part does not sit well with me. His sculptures and paintings seem to have more meaning than his performance. I do not consider what Reverend Ethan Acres does to be art. I believe that he is only in it for the money and he tries to increase his income by giving his art a church theme. I respect the fact that he is trying to make an honest living, but I do not respect the way he is trying to do it. Maybe if he only preached the word of God and did something else with his art, I would feel better about him. Another good idea is, if he based his art only on the Holy Bible and let someone else do the preaching. Now that is a show that I would mind going to. At the end of the day my opinion does not even matter, only God can judge you. I wish Reverend Ethan Acres the best of luck with his career.
