STORY REWRITE

Stay in Line Mr. Jones
Elementary was when I really enjoyed life as a youth. It was when I ate my first booger, shoved the biggest crayon that I could find up my nose, and wet myself every time a girl asked for my cookies that I had a crush on. Good times, good times. Also I was a young rebel. I did the exact opposite of what the teacher told the class to do. When it was naptime, I was up licking the carpet to get a good laugh out of my friends. When the teacher said wash your hands before you leave the restroom, I was the first one running out trying to touch kids in their face with my cootie hands. And when it was time for the class to line up, I was always the bigheaded little boy that didn’t know how to stay in line. It was just something about standing directly behind little stinky James that I didn’t enjoy. He smelled like all he did was have recess 24/7, no baths or anything. On top of that, the teacher would never let me be the line leader. Ok, I may not know where we were going but I could’ve still got the job done. What’s the point of staying in a line that you can’t lead? That’s no fun! Why the class couldn’t just walk out like a huge NFL team jumping and screaming? Why did James need deodorant at a very young age? I have a better question, WHY DID WE HAVE TO STAY IN LINE???

MM CRIT/ PROCESS PICS

MATERIALS

I chose to use my business cards on this project for many reasons. Paper is easy to fold and bend; the card has different colors on it, and BECAUSE IM ALL OVER IT duhhh! It wasn’t difficult at all to work with. I spoke to the material and it responded, loudly! I had a box of them sitting in my room since the fall. I’m planning on getting some new ones made in March and I didn’t know what to do with my old ones. So this project came right on time!

PROCESS/AMBITIOUSNESS

I was very ambitious to take a flat 2d card and turn it 3d. I had no clue where I was going to take this project until I had a long conversation with my cards and they told me to think about a crit that took place in class one day. THANKS WENDY! And from there the ideas just kept flowing in. I wanted the cards to keep their original flat shape but jump out at you at the same time.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

The way it is put together is very clean. You can’t see any glue unless you are so that you can see what I was thinking on the picture.  I tried my best to clean it up and only show what needs to be shone.

FORM

Color, shape, repetition, and continuance are the most dominant elements in my piece. The color and shape is what draws you in from a distance. While the fact that it is repeating and continuing keeps you there when you are up close.

 CONCEPT

Since most of the class think they have an idea of what it’s suppose to be, then I say the material fits with the shape of the object. SEX SELLS! If this is what I have to do to bring more attention to my work then so be it.

  PRESENTATION

I love the location of my piece. The distance from other people’s work is perfect. Plus, I used the bars from up stairs to tie a string around it to help it stand up. You can barely tell that the string is there. One part relaxes on the wall while the other piece pokes out from the wall.

HUMAN DOT COMP. CRIT

As a team we decided to go with a picnic theme. The plates were the dots and the blanket was the white space. We think we did a good job with the theme because it made sense and we stuck with the theme. We  documented the project very well also. Zach, Emily and I took turns climbing in and out of a tree to capture the images of everyone interacting with the dots. Use of negative space we think we got the job done. We probably could've figured out a way to remove the shadows or incorporate them better in the photographs. Group process was WOW AWSOME OMG! No arguing or fighting whatsoever, everyone was there and did their part. More planning is the only thing I would change about the project. That would've set us apart from doing a GOOD job to doing a GREAT job!

HUMAN DOT COMP.

We all worked together great as a team! If we had more time to sit down and really discuss the direction that we want to take this project, then it would've been much better. But I'm satisfied and I enjoyed the time with my group.

STAY IN LINE

FINAL 2D/3D DOTS

LECTURE 1,2, AND 3

In the lectures, we have been discussing many types of artist, what is art and how to describe it. Henry Darger, Jonathan Lasker, Linda Pettway, Michal Rovner, Matthew Ritchie, Eve Laramée, Oskar Schlemmer, F.T. Marinetti are just a few. We also had to write essays about artists of our choice and sketch pictures of their artwork. Yesterday we took a trip to the Menil in Houston and let loose. We had to sketch 6 different pieces of work from 6 different categories and answer a few questions. I have lived in Houston for 18 years and I have never heard of that museum. I'm learning more and more about what people consider art each and every class period.

  1. Relaxed/Anxious
  2. Rough/Smooth
  3. Light/Heavy
  4. Ordered/Playful
Just like the dots I need to work on my craftsmanship. Also, some people at my table said that it was kind of difficult to determine the two pairs. Everyone has their own point of view and see thing differently.

FINAL 3 DOTS

I have to work on the way I shade the circles and stay inside the lines. From a distance they look clean and neat but up close you can see the minor craftsmanship mistakes.

KURT SCHWITTERS AND COLLAGES

I really enjoy viewing collages and also making them. Kurt Schwitters caught my eye with his work because he uses almost everything in his collages. Newspaper, objects, pictures, letters, paint and much much more. He is a well rounded artist but he is most famous for his collages. I chose to post this picture of his work because I fell that it tells a story, plus the picture of the mother and the child made me think of my childhood and growing up with my mother.

RHYTHM AND REPETITION UNDERSTANDING

I have a great understanding of rhythm and repetition. Basically, it's anything that has a flow to it or pattern.   Even if your eye doesn't catch it the first time, it's still there. Color, lines, texture and shapes are all included in something that has rhythm and repetition.

All  of these photos have dots in them in their own special way!
